Unreal Friday!!

Well what a day that was!! I have to say that I am constantly amazed at how the whole internet networking thing works. Having being involved in digital marketing for some time and being behind successful websites Rite Edge.com, treespirals.com, and Hexapath.com I would say I thought I was getting old hat at this sort of stuff – but Oh how wrong I was!!!

Websites are great and an absolute must for practically any business these days, but its no longer enough to be just a website, it has to be functional, it has to be good looking and most of all it has to flaunt itself to the ever incredible search engine – and the rules for doing so are ever changing!!
I set up Unreal Solutions with all of the above at the forefront of my conscience. I wanted something for everyone, the company is specialist in its field of lanscaping product supplies and focussed in what it does, its website needs to be attractive yet organised and functional, its staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable, it will offer a wide range of products but only the best products for the task at hand – customers will be able to visit and we will visit them and above all else we will listen to their requirements and offer choice and a service to find whatever it is the customer is looking for – even if we don’t currently sell it!!

We see the growth and popularity of social and proessional networking platforms Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and we have a new opportunity to present our businesses and its offerings and it is predicted that Facebook will become the biggest business ever overtaking the likes of Google in the not too distant future which when you consider that it was conceived in a certain young man’s bedroom less than 10 years ago puts some perspective on the way things are shaping up. How many times have you seen facebook mentioned on TV ads these days?

We placed Facebook and Twitter high on our priority list to develop the company name at a very early stage and linked all the business accounts, the website and the company blog together to continue its exponential growth and considering we only really kicked off vigorously pushing the new company in March, the growth is nothing short of astounding. I have to confess the brilliance behind this is my amazing and talented wife Nina, without whom none of which would have been possible so soon.

I like to think between us we created something very special and ultimately something which will evolve to include different businesses operating in different markets and industries – but for the time being the objective is heavily focussed on growing the part of the business called Unreal Gardens which specialises in low maintenance and artificial garden and landscape product supplies. There’s a long way to go yet, but it’s not about completing the journey, its about enjoying the ride, and the longer the ride, the better as far as we’re concerned. We hope to make the Unreal experience as interesting and enjoyable for everyone we interact with.

Day 2 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Here’s a round up of all thats good at the prestigious Best of British Flower Shows, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2011:

Record numbers of gold medals were awarded at a “best ever” Chelsea Flower Show today despite a two-month spring heatwave and a judging day storm that threatened to wreak havoc.

Eight gold medals were handed out, one up on last year. Diarmuid Gavin also won his first gold medal for his extraordinary Irish Sky Garden, dominated by a huge crane that lifted an Avatar-inspired “flying pod” 80 feet above the show ground.
The B&Q garden, overlooked by a 30ft tower representing a “vertical allotment”, the tallest structure ever to feature at Chelsea, also struck gold.
The Daily Telegraph became the first sponsor in the history of the event to win a hat-trick of best show garden titles. Its calming garden, based on Roman ruins in Libya, beat off competition from “bling” entries that attracted more publicity and led to the event being dubbed the Chelsea Tower Show.
All the designers have struggled with unseasonably warm and dry weather, which brought flowers into bloom before today’s public opening, to display their gardens at their best. A deep Atlantic depression which caused high winds yesterday also brought problems as judges did their tours.
Cleve West, designer of the Daily Telegraph’s sunken garden, told of how parsnips from his allotment flowered early. The 52-year-old said: “I added the parsnips as a bit of a novelty but they actually flowered early and really added to the garden.”
Described as the “Heston Blumenthal of gardening” for his creative flair, West added: “The sculpture is based on the Roman ruins in Libya – it’s a magical place and it just makes what is happening there now more sad.”
The previous winners for the Telegraph were Andy Sturgeon, who won last year, and Ulf Nordfjell, victor in 2009.
The best urban garden award went to Jamie Dunstan, whose Winds of Change design for Stockton Drilling was dominated by six “turbines” engineered from reclaimed industrial cooling fans. Mr Dunstan, 39, who had only previously won silver, said: “It was a big surprise. I was hoping for Silver Gilt. I had to change the trees because of the wind and the rain. It wasn’t easy, they are incredibly heavy.”
The garden is made from reclaimed materials including a prison door. Gym flooring still show shoe scuffs from badminton and basketball games.

Chelsea Flower Show 2011

Well it will be well and truly under way, the most prestigious horticultural event of the year – The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, deemed by some as the Greatest Flower Show on Earth.

Unfortunately I wont be attending this year – the first year in which I won’t be physically there in 8 years. I love the razzle dazzle of Chelsea and the hum of the crowds, some quietly talking among themselves others completely bewildered by what can only be described as a feat of modern ingeniousity. It constantly amazes me how they manage to get so much into what is such a relatively small space – but then having said that, surely thats what most garden design is about – the optimum use of space to achieve the greatest of effect using a multitude of materials, and more and more these days in what has to be with a sympathetic lean towards the environment. I’m not entirely sure of what the weather is doing over the Chelsea Hospital Grounds, but the wind has been b;lowing a real old Hoollie and we have had a little rain here in dry old Lincolnshire this afternoon – at last some may say, but no matter the weather, there’s little to spoil what can only be described as an experience like no other.
